About the Program
Join Portuguese guitarist Simon Arruda for a captivating solo performance that explores the expressive range of the Guitarra Portuguesa — the 12-string instrument at the heart of Fado music. His set will feature a selection of guitarradas (instrumental pieces composed specifically for Portuguese guitar), as well as instrumental arrangements of traditional Fados that reflect the genre’s emotional and melodic depth.
Blending both the composed and improvisational traditions of Fado, Simon will also briefly highlight the composers and historical context behind the repertoire, offering audiences a deeper connection to Portugal’s rich musical heritage.
Simon Arruda is a Guitarrista; he plays the Portuguese guitar (Fado guitar) and is a passionate educator with a deep connection to Portuguese culture and music. He approaches the instrument with dedication and respect, striving to celebrate the beauty of Fado and its cultural significance. Whether performing at events or teaching young musicians, Simon aims to inspire others to connect with music on a meaningful level.
