About the Program
Join International Choreographic Interlink: Toronto Taipei (TTLink) for an intimate and enlightening discussion about the power of international cultural exchange.
In this conversational session, members of TTLink will share stories about their ongoing road trip, a journey of 6 artists and 1 producer exploring new ways of international exchange; how they first met up, made efforts to stay connected for three (3) years across the world during the pandemic, and how their collective journey continues to this day.
The initiative of TTLink, is rethinking and reimagining how international exchange can be sustained by individual’s efforts while incorporating resources as a collective. In TTLink, the idea of building up “creative residency” in relationships of reciprocity arises. It combines artist exchange and short-term residency. Cohorts from both sides reciprocally plan two-week residency programs in their respective countries and cities, in a way, jointly acting as cultural guides for each other, bringing others to experiences through oneself’s eyes, and sharing local professional networks with others.
International Choreographic Interlink: Toronto Taipei (TTLink) brings together individuals who are recognized by their peers as artists, artistic producers, artistic directors, sector innovators, community advocates, connectors and knowledge mobilizers. Group members are: WuKang Chen, Wen Huang, Fangas Nayaw, and PinWen Su from Taipei; Michael Caldwell, Andrea Nann, and Heidi Strauss from Toronto. These are individuals who are committed to the wellness, diversity, equity and growth of international dance; who value local and international relationship building, cultivation of experimental practices, and research and exploration into new methods and models for artistic creation, exchange, collaboration and residency.
For over 3 years members of TTLink have been deeply immersed in a long term monthly artistic exchange. In 2023 we engaged in two cultural exchange residencies (Toronto, August 2023 & Taiwan October 2023). Across diverse geographies and long distances, TTLink has been exploring various platforms and modalities for digital and in-person connection, as tools for communication, and most importantly as creative mediums for generating embodied exchange experiences. Our non-transactional approach impacts how we engage within our collective. Through in-person hosting and guesting we have cultivated deep relational care while appreciating and understanding one another and the specificity of social and cultural contexts surrounding and within each of our individualized practices.
