About the Program
Resonance of Identity: A Journey to Becoming Across Seas offers a unique cello concert intertwined with narrative storytelling to enrich the audience's experience. This performance artfully blends traditional Taiwanese folk tunes with Spanish flamenco and pop, specifically arranged for the rich sounds of the cello. It features a diverse group of musicians, including both seasoned cellists and promising apprentices.
The concert unfolds through a series of themed chapters such as "The Legend Unfolds" and "Voyage Over Turbulent Seas," each adding depth and context to the musical journey.
At its heart, the narration follows Mei, a young Taiwanese female dancer exploring Spain, where she meets descendants of Taiwanese immigrants and navigates her own experiences. These encounters, highlighting the joys and hardships of immigration, deepen the narrative. By integrating themes of heritage and belonging, the performance celebrates the cultural synergy between Taiwan and Spain. This event is more than a concert; it’s an immersive journey into identity and connection, driven by the universal language of music.
