About the Program

Scottish country dancing is a lively and sociable form of traditional dance, bringing people together through shared movement, music and community. Rooted in Scotland’s rich cultural heritage, it is danced in groups following simple patterns that combine teamwork, rhythm and enjoyment. It’s fun, easy and accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

During this session, local teacher Tristan Gerrie will introduce participants to the joys of Scottish Country Dancing.

Tristan and dancers from RSCDS Toronto will guide participants through some basic dance steps and formations. There will be fun and easy social dances that can be enjoyed by all. No need for a partner or prior experience; just wear flat, comfortable shoes.

RSCDS Toronto

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society has more than 350 chapters and groups worldwide, including here in Toronto.

RSCDS Toronto – which will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year – offers classes for beginners, improvers, children, teens and families in several locations across the city and around the GTA, as well as weekly and monthly social dances and special events.

Tristan Gerrie

Tristan grew up surrounded by the music, traditions, and community of Scottish Country Dancing - and has been dancing ever since! Following in the footsteps of his family, he began dancing as a child, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion.

Tristan completed his teaching certificate in St. Andrew's, Scotland, in 2024. Since then, he has taught classes of a variety of levels across Toronto. In the Fall, he will be teaching both a beginners' class and a young adults' class (full details on www.dancescottish.ca). Known for his enthusiasm and welcoming teaching style, Tristan has led workshops across Ontario and delights in helping both new and experienced dancers discover the fun and friendship of Scottish Country Dancing!

Performance / Vendor / Sponsorship Opportunities

TAIWANfest Toronto is grateful to be held on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, that is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge our privilege to be gathered here, and commit to work with and be respectful to the Indigenous peoples of this land while we engage in meaningful conversations of culture and reconciliation.
