About the Program

“Flow is my language. My island writes the weather.”

Born and raised in southern Taiwan, RapShark brings you a flow shaped by island life, feminine strength, and the heat of the subtropics.

Blending reggae grooves, boom bap grit, and Bossa Nova softness, her music moves through Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Spanish like waves through tropical air. Her lyrics come in tides: sometimes gentle, sometimes crashing. Her flow breathes like weather, including low-pressure afternoons, sudden storms, and long, quiet winds. She doesn’t need a label. She is the style.

RapShark

RapShark is a singer-songwriter based in Tainan, Taiwan. She writes songs in different genres with a hip-hop attitude, including reggae, post rock, alternative R&B, and indie rock. She “uses hip-hop’s attitude to create the music she wants to do”.

As a native speaker of Mandarin and Taiwanese, she is good at stringing incisive lyrics with rhymes and melodies, giving full play to the unique musicality of Chinese and Taiwanese tones. She brings new flavour to the Old School Beat, poetry to the rhythm, her lyrics sometimes funny and sometimes bloody—as a RapShark does.

TAIWANfest Toronto is grateful to be held on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, that is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge our privilege to be gathered here, and commit to work with and be respectful to the Indigenous peoples of this land while we engage in meaningful conversations of culture and reconciliation.
